OFFICE OF ARTS, CULTURE AND THE CREATIVE ECONOMY TO OPEN IN CITY HALL WITH NEW ART GALLERY

WHAT: Mayor Nutter will introduce the new home of the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy in a ribbon cutting ceremony at City Hall. For the first time, the Office is established as an independent City Department with street level presence, reconnecting the Office with the public and strengthening its ties to the cultural and creative communities.

On Thursday, the Office will also host an open house celebration from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for members of Philadelphia’s arts community, residents, visitors, and passers-by.

The newly renovated, environmentally friendly administrative office include an 800 square foot gallery – The Art Gallery At City Hall – created to further enliven City Hall and promote the city’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. “On the Rise”, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition highlights emerging local artists from three nonprofit arts organizations: The Center for Emerging Visual Artists, Inliquid and Philadelphia Sculptors.
