Philadelphia, October 5, 2011– Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Councilman Jack Kelly, LoJack SafetyNet Vice President Kathy Kelleher and Philadelphia Police Department Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross announced that 1,500 free SafetyNet devices with free service for six months will be available to Philadelphians. SafetyNet devices are available for any individual with a cognitive condition that may cause them to wander and become lost, including Alzheimer’s disease, autism, dementia and Down syndrome.
“Philadelphians have the opportunity to take extra precaution for their loved ones who suffer from cognitive conditions that may cause them to wander,” said Mayor Nutter. “I am grateful to LoJack SafetyNet for providing free devices and services to our citizens and to Councilman Kelly who has been instrumental in bringing LoJack to Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Police Department has already had success with locating those outfitted with SafetyNet who had disappeared. I hope it will save more lives in the future.”
Philadelphia Councilman-At-Large Jack Kelly said, “I have had the honor to serve in elected public office for several years, and during that time I have been the sponsor of numerous pieces of legislation that have shaped public policy in Philadelphia in several ways however, I consider this program one of my most important initiatives. LoJack SafetyNet has already saved the lives of two Philadelphians, and long after I retire I can take solace in knowing that this technology will save the lives of countless Philadelphians for years to come.”
Those interested in enrolling in the program can go to www.safetynetbylojack.com or call 1-877-4-FIND-THEM (1-877-434-6384). “We’re proud to be able to offer the SafetyNet by LoJack Service to the residents of the greater Philadelphia area who have autism and Alzheimer’s and are at risk of wandering,” said Kathy Kelleher, Vice President of LoJack SafetyNet, Inc. “Through our ‘Race to Keep Safe’ initiative, we are enabling these citizens to enroll in the valuable service for six months at no cost and with no obligation. Our sincerest thanks to Mayor Michael Nutter, Councilman Jack Kelly and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, who were all instrumental in helping to bring this service to the city of Philadelphia and for their continued and enthusiastic support in keeping these at-risk citizens safe.”
LoJack SafetyNet also awarded the Philadelphia Police Department Aviation Unit with an award in recognition of their airborne SafetyNet signal tracking on September 19, 2011. The PPD was able to successfully locate a missing individual suffering from Alzheimer’s disease who was outfitted with a SafetyNet device.
