Free Pledge to Prepare Night at the Franklin Institute

Wednesday, September 19

5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Find out which emergency supplies every home should have, pick up a Family Emergency Plan Template and sign up for emergency text alerts from the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management. Check out the tactical gear of the Philadelphia Police Department Homeland Security Unit and the Philadelphia Fire Department. Discover volunteer opportunities with local disaster response agencies such as the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter; the Salvation Army and the Medical Reserve Corps.

Visit the Changing Earth and Electricity exhibits to learn about the impact of earthquakes, flooding and severe weather. That’s where folks can create their own weather forecast in the Weather Prediction Green Screen.

To cap off the evening, the Philadelphia Fire Department’s elite Heavy Rescue 1 Unit will also perform a high-angle rope rescue demonstration in the atrium.
