The Office of Economic Opportunity is hosting this free, six (6) month, (2 classes per month), course is designed to provide minority contractors with firsthand experience, market information, productive business relationships, and an opportunity to expand and enhance their business capacity. This program will enable minority contractors to work more independently on City-funded, public works projects. School District of Philadelphia Funding
On June 5, 2011 Mayor Michael A. Nutter sent a letter to the School Reform Commission, the governing body of the School District of Philadelphia, emphasizing his continued commitment to the educational well-being of the city. In this letter the Mayor emphasized concern over fiscal and programmatic accountability district wide and expressed 8 areas of specific concern where he requested more information to promote further transparency to continue the collaborative partnership shared between the City and the school district. Task Force On Ethics And Campaign Finance Reform
December 1, 2011More than 100 years ago, Lincoln Steffens described Philadelphia as “corrupt and contented” in his book Shame of the Cities. More recently, fueled by periodic prosecutions and convictions of corrupt public officials, the City of Philadelphia has contended with a similar reputation – a place where citizens and businesses relied on corruption of City officials for access to municipal services and public contracts. That reputation, while exaggerated at times, was at other times well-deserved.

Mayor’s Task Force on Tax Policy and Economic Competitiveness
December 1, 2011The Task Force is charged with evaluating Philadelphia’s real estate development environment and its tax policy and structure; and how they compare to competitor cities and neighboring jurisdictions. The group is tasked with providing recommendations in October 2009. The Task Force is comprised of residents and taxpayers representing small and large business owners, academics, the private sector and community interests.
