WHAT: Today, the City of Philadelphia begin participating in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Summer of Service Challenge. The Corporation, in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama and five federal agencies – U.S. Department of Education, Department of Interior, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Agriculture, and Institute of Museums and Libraries – is challenging citizens of all ages to both seek out and develop volunteer opportunities designed to ensure that young people read, exercise and eat healthy food this summer. Philadelphia’s response to that challenge is Let’s Read. Let’s Move. Philadelphia., an initiative of the City’s Chief Service Officer carried out in partnership with a wide range of City agencies and partner organizations across the City.
