Philadelphia, April 26, 2012 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter presented 246 Philadelphia students with two tickets each as part of the Mayor’s Very Impressive Performers (VIPs) Program, which provides tickets to sporting and entertainment events to students to inspire their success in school.

For this quarter, the Mayor’s VIPs program awarded tickets to juniors from District, charter, private and Archdiocese schools who were selected as “most involved” by their teachers, school administrators and school staff.  Across the City, 80 schools participated in the VIPs program.

“The Mayor’s VIPs program is an opportunity to reward Philadelphia students for their hard work and dedication to their studies and communities and encourage our young people to stay on the right track for a brighter future,” said Mayor Nutter.  “I want to commend the juniors being recognized today for their commitment to their education and their schools and neighborhoods.”

The Philadelphia Soul provided 250 tickets to the Mayor’s VIPs program.  Tickets for the Philadelphia Phillies to the Mayor’s Box were provided by the City of Philadelphia.

For the 2012-2013 school year, 1,790 tickets have been distributed. Since the program’s inception in 2008, 7,286 tickets have been distributed to students.

This school quarter’s Mayor’s VIPs Ceremony was hosted by Temple University’s Athletic Department.
