Philadelphia, July 2, 2013– Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced that the City of Philadelphia will host for the second year a series of fun, free events, called “Pop Up” events, for Philadelphia youth as a part of the Fun Safe Philly Summer campaign, a one-stop information and summer planning resource for Philadelphia youth and families.
“Fun Safe Philly Summer is an opportunity to keep our young people active and engaged all summer long with free, fun and enriching activities. From the arts to sports and everything in between, Fun Safe Philly Summer has something to offer every young person in our great City. Pop up events are a great way for young people to participate in a new activity, meet new people and just have fun,” said Mayor Nutter. “I want to thank all of our partners and the young people who are making Fun Safe Philly Summer a huge success.”
This summer’s “Pop Up” events are in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Mayor’s Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement and the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy. List of “Pop Up” events as follows:
- Wednesday, July 3, 2013, 12pm-3pm: Philly Urban Creators, lot at the intersection of N.11th St. and Dakota St.
Volunteer day and children’s carnival in celebration of The Smurfs 2 movie release.
- Wednesday, July 10, 2013, 5pm-8pm: Mander Recreation Center, 2140 N. 33rd St.
After hours pool party with entertainment and prizes.
- Wednesday, July 17, 2013, 5pm-8pm: Tarken Ice Rink, 6250 Frontenac St.
Free skate ice skating party with entertainment and prizes.
- Wednesday, July 31, 2013, 3pm-6pm: Myers Recreation Center, 5800 Chester Ave.
Soccer clinic with the Philadelphia Union.
- Wednesday, August 7, 2013, 5:30pm-6:30pm: City Hall Courtyard
City Hall Presents: Dice Raw live music performance.
- Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 5:30pm-6:30pm: City Hall Courtyard
City Hall Presents: Kurt Vile live music performance.
Mayor Nutter launched the second year of the Fun Safe Philly Summer campaign in May. It is a collaborative initiative focused on increasing youth participation in available summer programming opportunities and summer meals programs.
