MAYOR NUTTER, SUPERINTENDENT HITE TO DELIVER FREE LIBRARY CARDS TO STUDENTS

Siobhan A. Reardon, President & Director, Free Library of Philadelphia

 

WHAT:          As part of National Library Week, the Free Library of Philadelphia has printed more than 98,000 library cards for students throughout The School District of Philadelphia.  Mayor Nutter, Superintendent Hite and Ms. Reardon will distribute personalized cards to students at an elementary school.

 

WHERE:        James G. Blaine Elementary School

                        3001 West Berks Street

 

WHEN:          Tuesday, April 15, 2014               9:30 AM      

                       

An estimated 38,000 students who already have library cards will receive bookmarks. Letters will also be sent to parents and teachers about library resources and ways to encourage students to use the library.

 

The library card distribution is part of the District’s broader partnership with the Free Library, which has helped reopen several school libraries and plans to align its summer reading lists to the District’s curriculum needs.
