Philadelphia, August 26, 2014 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter and City officials announced plans for a Center City parade on Wednesday, August 27th to celebrate Philadelphia’s own Taney Dragons, 2014 Mid-Atlantic Little League champions. The Dragons made it to the U.S. Championship semi-final round of the 2014 Little League World Series, becoming the third best Little League team in the nation.
The parade will begin at 20th & Market Streets in Center City at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. The parade route will travel east on Market Street, go around the southwest corner of City Hall, and travel south on Broad Street down to FDR Park at Broad and Pattison Streets. There will be two stops along the parade route: the first at the Kimmel Center where the team will be serenaded by the Philly POPS!, and the second at Broad Street & Washington Avenue where Mummers will perform.
The parade will culminate with a rally and speaking program in FDR Park in the field to the east of the American Swedish Historical Museum, directly off Pattison Avenue. After the parade, the Taney Dragons will travel to Citizens Bank Park where Mayor Nutter and the Philadelphia Phillies will host a pre-game tribute for the Little League team on the field.
