Statement From Mayor Nutter on Awarding of Second Casino License

Mayor Michael A. Nutter released the following statement in response to today’s decision by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to award a Category 2 License to Stadium Casino LLC, (Live! Hotel and Casino):

“We support the decision by the Gaming Control Board to award the second Category 2 License for Philadelphia to the Live! Hotel and Casino proposal in South Philadelphia,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “This $425 million project will generate thousands of much-needed construction and permanent jobs in Philadelphia, and we look forward to working with the project team, City Council, and community members to establish next steps to ensure the development of a successful casino that is a positive addition to our city. This is just the latest major development project for Philadelphia, adding to the more than $8.5 billion in construction activity that has taken place since January 2013.”

The four applicants under consideration were:

§ Tower Entertainment, LLC (The Provence) at 400 North Broad Street
§ Market East Associates, LP (Market 8 Casino) at 8th and Market Street
§ PHL Local Gaming, LLC (Casino Revolution) at 3333 South Front Street
§ Stadium Casino, LLC (Live! Hotel and Casino) at 900 Packer Avenue

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act and is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry. More information on the Gaming Control Board can be found here:
