MAYOR NUTTER RECEIVES THE ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTANTS’ EXCELLENCE IN GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

Philadelphia, February 11, 2015 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter received the 2015 Excellence in Government Leadership from the Association of Government Accountants at the National Leadership Training Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C. for his significant contributions to government financial management, outstanding leadership, high ethical standards and innovative management procedures.

“I am honored to receive the Excellence in Government Leadership Award.  Leadership is about a willingness to make the tough decisions, the ability to address complicated problems, and the best interest of your constituents at the heart of every choice you make – and I want to thank the Association of Government Accountants for recognizing the work of our Administration in financial management leadership,” said Mayor Nutter.  “I share this award with our incredible team: Finance Director Rob Dubow, Budget Director Rebecca Rhynhart, City Treasurer Nancy Winkler, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Commerce Director Alan Greenberger and the many great employees who have steered Philadelphia through the tough years to a more prosperous Philadelphia.”

The Excellence in Government Leadership Award recognizes the cumulative achievements of a state or local government professional who has served as a role model for others and has consistently exhibited the highest personal and professional standards throughout his/her public career.  The award was given on the basis of the Nutter Administration’s record across government, including producing balanced budgets, streamlining the City’s financial agencies, introducing performance based budgets, making high-value data available to the public, increasing delinquent tax collection, and attracting new businesses and residents to Philadelphia.

Mayor Nutter delivered an acceptance speech that detailed his approach to leadership, commitment to ethics and integrity in city government and experience during the Great Recession, recovery and its impact on Philadelphia today.
