MAYOR NUTTER ISSUES STATEMENT ON COMMENTS BY ORGANIZER OF PROPOSED RALLY AT LOWER MERION PARK

Philadelphia, March 13, 2015 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter issued the following statement regarding recent statements made by Kim Stolfer, founder of Firearms Owners Against Crime, regarding a proposed gun owners rally at a Lower Merion Park:

“Comparing Rosa Parks, a Civil Rights hero, and what she stood for to his own self-aggrandizing role on the wrong side of gun safety is sheer ignorance.  By comparing himself carrying a gun in a public park to Rosa Parks’ activist role in the Civil Rights Movement, Mr. Stolfer is desecrating her name, memory and the non-violent philosophy that she stood for.  He is making a mockery of serious historical events for his own political and personal purposes.”
