PHILADELPHIA PARKS AND RECREATION KICKS OFF 2015 POOL SEASON

Everett A. Gillison, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Chief of Staff to Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Michael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources, and District Attorney Seth Williams kicked off the 2015 pool season at Mander Recreation Center (2140 North 3rd Street) in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. During the next two weeks, pools will open every day until all 70 are open; and all pools will open by July 1.  Pools will operate from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday – Friday, and 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on weekends.

City pools provide opportunities for exercise and relaxation in a healthy and safe environment. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the City agency that operates and staffs the pools, hires approximately 800 pool staffers each summer as lifeguards or pool maintenance aids also provides free swim lessons to children.  Parents or guardians can visit or call their neighborhood recreation center to find out how to apply.
