WHAT: Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and United States Secret Service Director Clancy will travel to Philadelphia to review the operational security and contingency planning in preparation for Pope Francis’ visit later this month. Secretary Johnson has designated this upcoming event as a National Special Security Event (NSSE), which allows for enhanced cooperation of local, state and federal partners in establishing a safe and secure environment for the Pope’s visit.
While in Philadelphia, Secretary Johnson and Director Clancy will participate in a joint media availability with Mayor Nutter at the Multi-Agency Communications Center (MACC), the central point of communications for the agencies involved in the operational security and public safety efforts for the 2015 Papal Visit to Philadelphia.
Following the media availability, members of the media will have the opportunity to tour the MACC. U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge David Beach of the Philadelphia Field Office will conduct a briefing on the capabilities and duties of the MACC and at the conclusion of this briefing, media outlets will be allowed to interview agency representatives from the participating partner agencies.
Agency representatives from the U.S. Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, Transportation Security Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office, Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia State Police, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management, the City of Philadelphia Mayor’s Office, Philadelphia Fire Department, and U.S. Customs and Broder Protection will be available for interviews.
